On the way to the polling station, a tragedy struck a Surin family when their pickup truck suddenly swerved off the road and ended up in a ditch on Highway 266 on Sunday. The accident occurred near the Buri Rama government complex.
One of the passengers, who was in the back of the truck, flew ahead of the car due to a strong blow and was crushed by the same car. It took 20 minutes for rescuers to remove his body and take him to Buri Rama Central Hospital, where he died from his injuries.
Other passengers and the driver were also injured, including two children under the age of two.
Fongchan Trakarndi, a 57-year-old passenger and family member, said she and her family traveled from Samut Prakan to the northeastern province of Surin to vote.
Police, after questioning witnesses, said they suspect the driver of falling asleep at the wheel due to fatigue.
