Earlier this week, a raid took place at the Asia Hotel in Bang Lamung, Chonburi Province, which resulted in the arrest of 83 Indian tourists who were playing cards for money in the hotel's conference room. In addition, 4 Thai men, 2 Thai women and 4 Myanmar women who worked as card dealers were detained.
The head of the police department, Paul Maj Lilaraphaporn, told reporters that they had received a signal that many Indian tourists had checked into a hotel on Saturday and planned to leave on Monday. The police also knew that the conference room had been turned into a makeshift casino.
When the police arrived, they found 83 Indian citizens, 71 of whom were men, playing Baccarat and Black Jack. The suspects tried to escape but were arrested.
In the gambling hall, the police found tables for card games in Baccarat and Black Jack, as well as cash, mobile phones and laptops, cards and chips.
The police believe that the makeshift casino had a turnover of one billion rupees.
One of the Thai women has been identified as Sitranan Kaevlor, 32, who reportedly admitted to organizing play trips for Indian tourists. She said they charged 50,000 baht per person for this, which included airfare, meals, transfers from the airport to the hotel, and hotel rooms.
