In the first week after the long Songkran holidays, Thailand has registered a significant increase in hospitalizations and deaths from Covid-19. According to the Department of Disease Control (DDC), 1,088 people with severe illness were admitted to hospitals between April 16 and April 22, averaging 155 patients per day.
Of these, 73 suffered from pneumonia and 35 needed ventilators.
This figure is twice as high as last week April 9-15, when only 435 patients were hospitalized and two died from the virus. Since the beginning of the year, 6,571 patients have been hospitalized in Thailand for treatment of Covid-19, and 278 people have died from the virus.
Thus, hospitalizations and deaths continue to rise in Thailand despite the massive vaccination campaign that began in January. As of April 22, 144.95 million Covid-19 vaccinations have been carried out, according to the latest figures.
The Covid-19 situation in Thailand remains serious and precautions such as social distancing, mask wearing and frequent handwashing must continue. In addition, it is important to continue a massive vaccination campaign to reduce the risk of infection and the severity of the disease.
