Bangkok police are preparing for an early vote to be held on Sunday. According to the head of the Metropolitan Police, Paul Major-General Jirasan Kaevsaeng-ek, 2,997 policemen will patrol the city, which will be located at 1,475 polling stations. They will ensure order and security in the city from 8 am to 5 pm on Sunday.
In addition, traffic police officers will also be deployed in places where large gatherings of voters are expected to prevent traffic jams. These locations include Precinct #14 in Bang Kapi District (Ramkhamhaeng University) with 52,771 registered voters and Precinct #2 in Patum Wan (Siam Paragon Mall) with 40,750 registered voters.
According to the Electoral Commission, 809,748 people are registered in Bangkok ready to vote early. The capital has the largest number of seats in constituencies - 33, and the total number of voters in the city is 4,469,280 people.
In addition, Jirasan said that the police received 28 complaints about defaced election banners in the capital. Of these, 10 cases have already been investigated, while the remaining 18 are still under investigation.
The head of the police reminded the candidates and their supporters of the need to respect the law and democratic norms during the election campaign. He also warned against selling, buying, distributing or consuming alcohol during elections, violating this rule could result in a fine of up to 10,000 baht and/or jail time.
