The Pattaya Kite Festival is an annual event that features a competition between local kite makers and kite enthusiasts who bring their most beautiful creations to compete for prizes.
Giant kites are made in traditional Thai style. Their appearance is reminiscent of birds, dragons, fish, butterflies, flowers and more. Their size varies from 3 meters to 10 meters wide. All of them have bright colors and vibrant fabrics that make them stand out against the clear blue skies of Pattaya's sunny beaches.
The festival also includes many entertainments for visitors such as traditional Thai cultural performances such as classical music concerts by Thai musicians playing drums, xylophones or gongs; show with the participation of skilled martial artists; master classes on making traditional Thai lanterns from rice paper; as well as many food stalls selling delicious snacks like som tam (papaya salad) and grilled seafood skewers.
Various competitions are held at the festival, including races between teams flying their own large kites, or individual competitions in competitions such as "longest flight" or "highest altitude". The winners will receive prizes in the form of cash prizes or cups - so if you have your own kite that you would like to show off, now is your chance!
At night, special light shows will be held, during which illuminated balloons will be launched into the night sky, and fireworks will explode around them. This is truly an incredible sight not to be missed!
