Clandestine cosmetic clinic on Koh Samui

An unregistered cosmetics clinic has been uncovered on the picturesque island of Koh Samui in the azure waters of the Gulf of Thailand. The establishment, under the name ALSPA Beauty Clinic, was located in a hotel room and offered a wide range of services, including platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injections. Despite strict requirements for such procedures due to their potential health risks, the clinic was able to conduct its illegal activities unimpeded.

Law enforcement was alerted by an informant that an alien was illegally operating a cosmetic clinic while positioning it as a medical facility. After an initial investigation, Surat Thani provincial immigration officials discovered that the clinic was actively advertising on social media, posting photos of foreign employees serving clients.

Arrest of clandestine clinic staff

During an inspection in the hotel room where the clinic was located, police caught two Russian nationals, 35-year-old Alexander and 32-year-old Lilia, performing cosmetic and muscle treatments on the faces of foreign clients. Alexander presented a work permit as the general director of a company providing domestic services, but his activities at the clinic were outside the scope of this profession. Lilia did not have a work permit to work in Thailand at all.

Various medical equipment such as a centrifuge, syringes of different sizes, cosmetics, client record cards, price lists for services, and dangerous medicines without labels in Thai were found in the hotel room. Lilia was charged with working without a permit and Alexander was charged with working in a profession that was illegal for him.

The owner of the illegal cosmetology center

Further investigation revealed that the clandestine cosmetology clinic was owned by a 41-year-old Russian woman named Yulia. According to the shift schedule and order list discovered, the clinic employed numerous foreigners who took turns performing various cosmetic procedures on clients.

Yulia was charged with operating a medical facility without a license, violating the Hospital Act, and distributing pharmaceuticals without authorization. The case shed light on the existence of a shady business in the cosmetic services industry on Koh Samui, where illegal clinics were operating under the guise of beauty salons, offering dangerous procedures without proper medical supervision.

This incident serves as a reminder of the need for greater regulation and monitoring of cosmetic establishments, especially those offering invasive procedures. The safety and health of customers should be the top priority, and lawbreakers should be held accountable for their illegal actions.
