Watch out for summer thunderstorms: how to stay safe during bad weather

Summer thunderstorms with gusty winds, hail and thunder are expected in many provinces in upper Thailand on Wednesday, forecasters from the Thai Meteorological Administration (TMD) warned. People in these areas are advised to stay at home and away from large trees and unreliable billboards. In addition, TMD does not recommend carrying metal objects or using mobile phones during thunderstorms.

To avoid possible dangers, a number of precautions must be observed. If you are outside during a thunderstorm, seek shelter in a building or vehicle. If there is no way to find shelter, avoid open spaces and large trees. In case you are in an open area and cannot find cover, do not lie down on the ground or touch metal surfaces. If you are in a building, avoid windows and open doors, and do not touch wires for telephones or computers.

In addition, farmers are encouraged to protect their crops and livestock. Make sure the livestock is in a safe location and protected from gusty winds and hail. If you own your own business, make sure your property is weatherproof.

The height of the waves in the upper Gulf of Thailand and the Andaman Sea will reach 1-2 meters and will be even higher during thunderstorms. Vessels are advised to be careful and stay at anchor during the downpour.

Remember that your safety is the most important thing. Follow the recommendations of experts and be careful during summer thunderstorms.
