All necessary measures to maintain law and order and ensure free traffic across the country on election day were taken by the Royal Thai Police, a senior police official said.
Deputy Commissioner General of Police, Gen. Roy Inghapiroj, who heads the Center for Law and Order on election day, said on Thursday that all measures have been taken by police forces across the country to help the Electoral Commission (EC) maintain security.
Among other things, the police officers who will be deployed to provide security at the polling stations have been trained in the basics of the electoral law so that they can respond immediately if the law is violated.
Roy said that the police successfully helped the EC to maintain order during the May 7 preliminary vote.
On early voting day, police units accompanied polling officials as they transported ballot boxes to early polling stations across the country, Roy added.
So far, the police have received 180 election-related complaints, including 141 complaints about election posters and defaced signs.
In 40 election-related cases, police made arrests.
