The fears of the population and government services in Thailand about the onset of the dry season are not decreasing. In this regard, the Ministry of Agriculture instructed the Regional Department of Roads to prepare for the need to distribute water in rural areas.
In addition, the department instructed provincial offices to check the condition of roads along reservoirs and irrigation canals, fearing their collapse due to falling water levels. It was announced on the DRD official website that provincial and district offices will cooperate with provincial departments to deploy water carriers to provide water to residents in drought areas.
In turn, RRD officers are instructed to check all rural roads along reservoirs and irrigated canals for cracks and signs of collapse caused by lower water levels. Warning signs will be installed for motorists on roads that are at risk of collapse.
The agency also ordered offices to be on standby for immediate road repairs in the event of a collapse. In addition, roads repaired after a collapse must be checked regularly for further damage due to drought.
In its latest announcement, the Met Office warned that this year's dry season will be more severe than in 2019 and 2020. According to meteorologists, such dryness is due to record high temperatures across the country.
