Consumers in Phitsanulok are unhappy with the increase in the price of chicken eggs by 0.2 baht per egg, or 6 baht for a tray of 30 eggs. The price increase was announced by the Poultry Farmers Co-operative Network of Thailand last week. The network on Monday advised its members to increase the price of a range of eggs on farms from 3.6 baht to 3.8 baht per egg.
The increase was driven by higher animal feed prices, which led to a reduction in egg production, the chain explained.
When journalists visited markets in Phitsanulok province on Friday, they found that the price of eggs had risen to 4-4.2 baht per egg, or 100-110 baht per tray, as advertised.
At the same time, prices for duck eggs in the province are also rising due to low productivity. Sellers say many farmers have stopped poultry farming due to rising feed prices, while those who have remained in business have seen production cuts as ducks have been hit by high summer heat.
