Bangkok Governor Chadchart pledges to improve garbage collection services

Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt, determined to tackle Bangkok's garbage disposal problem, has unveiled plans to reorganize the city's waste management system. During a recent visit to Phra Khanong district office, Chadchart promised to ensure a more efficient garbage collection process by introducing a twice-weekly garbage collection schedule using special garbage trucks.

Recognizing the inadequacy of the services currently provided, he stressed the need for improvement and gave the Phra Khanong district office a one-month deadline to complete the task of changing the garbage collection schedule. Despite staffing problems, Chadchart suggested organizing overtime for waste pickers in the district to ensure timely waste removal. This initiative aims to address the concerns of local residents, and move Bangkok towards a cleaner and healthier environment.

Addressing infrastructure and road problems in Phra Khanong district

Governor Chadchart's desire to improve living conditions in Phra Khanong district goes beyond the issue of garbage disposal. In response to residents' complaints about deteriorating roads and damaged sewer manholes, Chadchart announced that the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration has allocated a budget to address these infrastructure problems. More than 100 lanes in the area, including the main thoroughfares of Sukhumvit and Old Rot Fai Road, will be repaired and maintained.

In particular, Old Rot Fai Road, which is a crucial transportation hub for heavy trucks delivering goods to the port of Klong Toi and nearby oil refineries, will be equipped with automatic weighbridges to prevent overloading, which is a major cause of road deterioration. In addition, the governor expressed his intention to cooperate with the Department of Industrial Works to enforce emission standards at nearby oil refineries and cement plants.

Combating street vending and flood risk in Phra Khanong district

In an effort to improve the overall quality of life in Phra Khanong, Governor Chadchart has set out to eradicate street vending on the sidewalks of Sukhumvit. Concerned that they are disturbing pedestrians, Chadchart directed the district office to crack down on street vendors operating on Sukhumvit Soi 101, Sukhumvit Soi 96 and Sukhumvit Soi 93. Ensuring that the pedestrian walkways are clean and accessible to residents and visitors remains a priority for the governor's office.

Chadchart also spoke about the proactive measures taken in the district to reduce flood risk. One such measure is the current flood control tunnel under Sukhumvit Soi 101/1, which aims to prevent flooding in the area. Going forward, the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration will focus on improving road conditions and drainage systems on Sukhumvit Soi 64, further protecting the area from flooding.

By prioritizing efficient garbage collection, infrastructure development, street vending and flooding issues, Governor Chadchart Sittipunt aims to transform Phra Khanong district into a cleaner and more livable neighborhood. These initiatives are part of his broader vision to improve the overall quality of life in Bangkok and create a sustainable and prosperous metropolis for all its residents.
