Introduction of New Measures to Reduce Congestion in Bangkok: Feeder Buses on the Samsen-Thonburi Route

Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt on Thursday tested a Bangkok Municipality (BMA) bus on the Samsen-Thonburi route, which was launched to reduce traffic congestion, ahead of the start of the new school semester.

Samsen Road is one of the busiest routes in Bangkok due to the large number of schools and educational institutions located on this street.

The traffic situation has only worsened due to the construction of the MRT Purple Line section from Tao Pung to Rat Buran, crossing the Krung Ton bridge connecting Phra Nakhon and Thonburi districts.

This led to even more traffic on the bridge and, consequently, to congestion on the Samsen Road, which is connected to it.

The Department of Transport and Traffic of Bangkok Municipality has tested a bus connecting Samsen Road to Thonburi to reduce the number of vehicles crossing the bridge.

This bus also provides alternative transportation for students whose parents usually take them to schools on Samsen Road and pick them up after class. The BMA feeder bus is electrically powered, fully air-conditioned and can accommodate up to 35 passengers. In addition, one service officer will be assigned to each bus to ensure student safety.

Feeder buses will run during peak hours Monday to Friday, from 6:00 to 9:00 and from 15:20 to 20:00 starting May 15. The feeder bus ride will be free.
