Starting June 1, 2023, the Thai government will begin to impose a tourist tax on all vacationers. The amount of the fee will be 300 THB from all foreign tourists who arrived by plane, and 150 THB for all those who arrived in the country in any other way.
Thailand's budget is expected to generate THB3.9 billion in revenue. The amount received as a result of these fees is planned to be used for honey. insurance and accident insurance while travelers are in Thailand. It is expected that the number of international travelers arriving in the country will be more than 30 million, which is significantly more than last year (11.2 million). In 2019, before the outbreak of the covid-19 pandemic, 40 million tourists arrived in Thailand, an all-time record.
The idea of introducing such a fee was considered for a long time and was postponed due to the situation with the coronavirus, but now part of the funds will be invested in the development of local tourist attractions. However, details on exactly how fees will be charged for people arriving by land have yet to be determined.
