Unprecedented influx of visitors for Thai New Year celebrations

Phuket Island is expected to see an unprecedented influx of tourists during this year's Songkran, the Thai New Year, according to the Tourism Authority of Thailand. According to preliminary estimates, about 278,000 guests will stay at the resort between April 12 and 16. This truly record-breaking figure exceeds previous years' figures by tens of thousands of travelers.

The region's tourism industry is preparing for an unprecedented rush. Hotel bookings have already reached 83%, with some hotels reporting full occupancy. This year's Thai New Year promises to be a real peak of popularity among tourists.

Significant revenue for the island's economy

According to experts' calculations, the mass arrival of guests will bring Phuket a huge income - about 7.4 billion baht for a week of festivities. On average, each tourist will spend about 6,950 baht a day on accommodation, food and entertainment. These impressive figures can be a major boost to the economy of the entire region.

Traditionally, the main contingent of visitors will be Russians and Chinese. Every day about 5,250 tourists from Russia and 2,100 travelers from China arrive on the island. However, this year a noticeable increase in the number of visitors from Europe, the Middle East and other regions of the world is expected.

Diverse holiday program

Phuket is preparing to welcome Songkran with a colorful spread and numerous celebrations. Celebrations are planned at many of the island's iconic locations, including the Old Saphankhin Bridge, Old Town and the famous Patong Beach. Traditional water battles, colorful parades and fireworks are just a small part of the entertainment that awaits tourists.

Tourist authorities and locals hope that the festivities will be peaceful and guests will behave properly. There have been isolated incidents with foreigners in recent weeks and all parties are now calling for strict law enforcement regardless of nationality. Songkran promises to be a colorful and memorable event for both the people of Phuket and the hundreds of thousands of visitors to the island.
