The Thai government plans to receive up to 80 million foreign tourists annually

Tourism Minister Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn has set a five-year goal to reach 5 trillion baht in revenue from this influx of tourists, almost triple the 1.93 trillion baht received from foreign tourists in 2019.

Thailand is expected to welcome at least 25 million foreign tourists by this year as part of an attempt to restore tourism levels to 60% of pre-pandemic levels. By 2023, domestic and international travelers are estimated to be able to bring 2.4 trillion baht, 80% of pre-pandemic levels, from tourists from China after the lifting of entry restrictions to Thailand.

Phiphat noted that in order to cope with such a large influx of foreign visitors, close cooperation between relevant government agencies and members of the public is necessary to ensure security for everyone, as well as solve the shortage of qualified personnel in the tourism industry itself.

According to the Tourism Authority, 11.81 million foreign tourists came to the country last year, amounting to 1.5 trillion. baht; Malaysia leads with 1.95 million followed by India (965,994), Laos (844,959), Cambodia (591).
