A naked and aggressive Russian man went on a rampage in the streets of a popular Thai resort. He was detained by the police for violation of public order.
Incident involving a Russian tourist in Pattaya
On November 7 at about 20:00 local time on one of the central streets of Pattaya there was an incident involving a 23-year-old Russian citizen. The man was in a state of alcoholic intoxication and behaved extremely aggressively.
According to police reports, the Russian was walking around the street completely naked and yelling at passersby. He clearly posed a threat to others.
Several witnesses began videotaping what was happening. One of the recordings shows the man suddenly attacking a couple sitting on a motorcycle at an intersection. He punched the driver in the face without any reason.
The reaction of eyewitnesses and police
Upon seeing the attack, eyewitnesses called the police and rushed to the victims' aid. Several people managed to disarm the hooligan - they threw him on the ground and held him until the arrival of law enforcers.
A team of police officers led by Colonel Navin Senthurath promptly arrived at the scene. They detained the Russian and took him to hospital.
However, even after detention, the man continued to behave aggressively. He threatened police officers, doctors and others. It was extremely difficult to communicate with him as he refused to speak Thai or English.
Further action and possible charges
According to the police statement, the Russian will undergo a psychiatric evaluation and testing for banned substances.
He will likely face charges of hooliganism, disorderly conduct, assaulting citizens and indecent behavior in a public place.
So far, the man is in an inadequate state and cannot testify.
The problem of naked Russians in Thailand
Unfortunately, naked Russian tourists are not a rare phenomenon in Thailand. Local media have repeatedly reported on such incidents.
For example, last year on the island of Samui eyewitnesses noticed a drunken naked Russian who behaved defiantly among vacationers on the beach.
Similar incidents have occurred in previous years. This causes a negative reaction from Thai citizens and damages the reputation of Russian tourists.
