New Zoo Resident: Pygmy Hippopotamus
The pygmy hippopotamus that was born at the zoo has already managed to win the hearts of staff and visitors. These small but strong animals are much smaller than their more famous relatives and are endangered. The birth of the pygmy hippopotamus is an important event for the zoo and the entire program to preserve rare species.
Contest Terms
To participate in the naming contest, zoo visitors are invited to fill out a special form on the zoo grounds or send their suggestions online through the official website of the zoo. The contest will last until the end of the month, after which a jury of zoo staff and biologists will choose the most suitable name. Visitors and the general public can vote for their favorite name from the following options: Moo Deng, Moo Daeng or Moo Sap. Participants in the naming competition have a chance to win exciting prizes including 10 pairs of “fermented fish sauce” and 3 special hippo dolls to celebrate the 46th anniversary.
The name with the most votes will be chosen and the winners will be announced on Tuesday, August 20, 2024 on the zoo’s official Facebook page: Khao Kheow Open Zoo.

In addition to the competition, Khao Kheow Zoo has prepared an extensive program of events to celebrate the occasion. Visitors can enjoy:
