The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) announced on Thursday plans to make 42-year-old Pete Limjaroenrath the face of Thailand's tourism to charm tourists and bring them to the kingdom. Pita is an eight-party coalition candidate for Thailand's prime minister, although some analysts say he is still facing resistance from the military-backed parties that the coalition wiped out in the May 14 election.
Pita is a great candidate for Thailand's tourism ambassador because he is popular with young people, Yuthasak said. “It would be beneficial if Pita agreed to become an ambassador for Thailand's tourism industry as he has the qualities of a key opinion,” Yuthasak said. Yuthasak also added that about 50,000 foreign citizens are expected to arrive in May every day. Last month, an average of more than 80,000 foreign nationals visited Thailand daily, but that number increased significantly during Songkran, he added.
Thailand Tourism Board President Chamnan Srisawat also agreed that Pita's appointment as tourism ambassador would be part of a "quick win" strategy. He urged the next government to improve the quality of attractions to make them more attractive to tourists.
The next tourism minister should be from the Pu Tai or Moving Forward party, Chamnan added.
