How to protect yourself and loved ones after the Songkran celebration

The Thai Ministry of Health has announced measures it is planning to take to combat the new wave of COVID-19 infections expected after the Songkran celebrations. Even though the government advised avoiding large gatherings, many still gathered for the holidays and violated social distancing rules. This can lead to an increase in the number of infections.

The permanent secretary of the Ministry of Health, Dr. Opas Karkawinpong, warns that a large number of patients with COVID-19 are expected after the end of the holidays. People who have visited crowded places should monitor their well-being for seven days and avoid contact with elderly or sick relatives. If they show signs of respiratory illness, they should also be tested for covid.

In addition to these recommendations, Dr. Opas Karnkawingpong advises to protect yourself in the following ways:

Get an extra dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. This is especially important for people who are at risk. In addition, it is recommended to get a dose of the flu vaccine and the COVID-19 vaccine every year to improve immunity and protect yourself from possible infections.

Always wear a mask in public places and if you are around elderly people or patients, such as in hospitals and nursing homes.

If you experience signs of respiratory disease, immediately take a covid test and consult a doctor.
