At the International Cheerleading Championships held at the ESPN Wide World of Sports in Orlando, Thailand won a gold medal in the youth hip-hop team category and a silver medal in the hip-hop twos category.
More than 40 countries participated in the event, including a team from Thailand, which won the youth hip-hop team category for the first time, beating teams from the US and Mexico.
The team consisted of 20 young athletes aged 12 to 14 who represented Chiang Mai University Demonstration School and Lampang Assumption College.
Also participants from Thailand, Ekarin Iamsiriarat and Piya Wansuk from Chonburi Province, won the silver medal in the hip-hop twos category. In the same category, Japan won the gold and Ecuador the bronze.
In addition, the team from Thailand, Echya Chakrabowonmongkol and Punyanuch Khumdi from Bangkok, placed 8th in the pop twos category. Here the gold went to the United States, in second place was Ukraine, and in third - Japan.
This victory is important not only for the team from Thailand, but for the whole country, as it raises the profile of cheerleading in Thailand and attracts more people to the sport.
