A list of the 10 best countries for retirees was compiled, among which was Thailand
International Living notes that this choice will benefit not only those who are retired, but also anyone who is striving for an improved and more economical lifestyle.
According to International Living's latest report on the Global Retirement Index, Thailand and Italy were ranked ninth overall in their "10 Most Affordable Places to Live After Retirement" list for 2023. The list was compiled by experts from International Living and is said to provide useful information not only to retirees, but to anyone looking for a better quality of life and lower cost of living.
Portugal took the top spot thanks to its weak currency and visa process, with Mexico following close behind. Panama, Ecuador, Costa Rica, Spain, Greece, France and Thailand/Italy round out the top ten respectively.
As International Living reporter Rachel Devlin explains, "Our report is not only for retirees, but also for those seeking a better lifestyle or just wanting to leave their home country."

The criteria used to compile the rankings include cost of living, climate comfort, ease of obtaining a visa, housing affordability, and healthcare costs.

All these factors combine to make Thailand an attractive destination for foreign retirees: the warm climate radiates sunny days, allowing them access to affordable food, as well as comfortable housing prices. In addition, its unique cultural history allows travelers to have a unique experience unlike any other country in Southeast Asia. According to Devlin, "Thailand attracts people with a strong sense of adventure who appreciate its natural beauty and traditional customs." In order to enjoy such luxury with comfort, $1,596 usd will fall per pair per month.
