Green Aviation: Collaboration Between Thai Airways and Bangchak to Reduce Greenhouse Gas Emissions

Leading full-service carrier Thai Airways is focusing on a business approach that promotes balance in the economy, society, environment and governance, said Taviroj Songkumpol, head of corporate strategy.

Thai Airways has invested in the creation of projects to produce sustainable aviation fuel from used oil. This investment adds value to the country's waste and helps reduce the carbon footprint of the aviation industry. The goal of this collaboration is to advance the aviation industry both domestically and internationally through the use of sustainable aviation fuels with the goal of achieving zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, added Taviroge.

At the moment, the aviation industry contributes more than 2% of total greenhouse gas emissions and with the projected growth of the industry, it is inevitable that greenhouse gas emissions will increase if this issue is not addressed. Collaboration with Bangchak involves the exchange of knowledge, experience and expertise to conduct technical research on the efficient use of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) to achieve the Net Zero goal and meet the standards set by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and the International Air Transport Association (IATA).

Tamarat Paryunsuk, Senior Executive Vice President of Bangchak's Refinery Business Group, said Bangchak is committed to fulfilling its mission under the vision of a "sustainable world through green innovation."

Bangchak is accelerating investments in a green and sustainable sector, preparing for future technological advances and changes, as well as meeting the challenges of climate change.
