Due to the recent announcement by the Land Transport Association of Thailand (LTAT) that diesel prices need to be further reduced, the Ministry of Energy should take effective measures to stimulate the economy and develop tourism in the country. The head of LTAT, Apichart Prairungruang, said on Wednesday that reducing the price of diesel by only 50 satang per liter would not have a significant impact on the cost of transportation.
He explained that the cost of transportation increases or decreases by 3% when the price of diesel changes by 1 baht. Therefore, in order to achieve more significant results, the ministry should further reduce prices. In addition, Prairungruang noted that the world price of diesel may soon fall, and the cost of fuel will be at the level of 25 baht per liter.
In addition to this, he also advised the ministry to split the subsidies given to the Petroleum Products Fund for diesel and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) to ensure a fair price for consumers. Lower fuel prices are also boosting the economy and the tourism sector. As fuel prices drop, people travel more and spend more money. In addition, lower fuel prices will lead to a reduction in the cost of electricity, which will also have a positive effect on the economy.
Apichart expressed doubts as to whether the new government would be able to cope with rising fuel and electricity prices, as many previous parties had failed to cope with these problems. It is necessary to take the right measures to control this situation.
