Malaysia starts importing eggs from Thailand to deal with egg shortage

Malaysia continues to struggle with egg shortages caused by rising production costs and a lack of animal feed. However, this time she decided to turn to her neighbor in the region - Thailand. According to an agreement between the two countries, four companies from Thailand will start exporting eggs to Malaysia to help deal with the lack of eggs.

As a result of this deal, Malaysia will be able to receive eggs from Thailand by the end of May. The head of the livestock department, Somchuan Ratanamungklanon, said that exports are planned before the end of the year.

According to Malaysian media reports, locals consume an average of 968 million eggs each month. However, Thailand can produce up to 43 million eggs per day and export 1.5 million of them. According to Somchuan, egg exports to Malaysia will not affect domestic consumption as there is a balance between production and consumption in Thailand.

However, it is worth noting that Malaysia is not the only country suffering from a shortage of eggs. For example, Taiwan recently blocked poultry exports due to an outbreak of bird flu in the region. In addition, increased demand for eggs during the COVID-19 pandemic has exacerbated the situation.
