The story of a Russian tourist who was stuck without money at Phuket airport for 2 weeks

Recently it became known about the amazing story of a Russian tourist, who for unknown reasons was delayed in the international terminal of the airport of Phuket island for two weeks. The man missed his return flight and found himself without means of subsistence in a foreign land. Thanks to the help of local authorities and compatriots, he managed to return home.

Circumstances of the incident

According to the Phuket Tourist Assistance Center, published on September 21, a Russian named Oleg arrived on the island as a vacationer. However, on the day of departure, he was very late for his flight and found himself locked in the transit zone of the airport. The man had no money with him to buy a new airline ticket or even for food and medicine during the forced wait.

The airport staff found Oleg in a state of severe alcohol intoxication. He spent two weeks in this state in the terminal until his relatives bought a return ticket for him. During this time, the tourist had to rely on the help of local authorities.

Authorities responded and provided assistance

For two weeks, airport workers, staff from the Tourist Assistance Center and Phuket Tourist Police provided Oleg with everything he needed. When the man's eye infection worsened, he was even hospitalized and given medicine.

In addition, the officials financed the purchase of food and medicines for the Russian. According to Oleg, he himself avoided visiting stores for fear of not being able to resist buying alcohol.

Return to his home country

On September 21, the tourist was able to fly back to Russia. Before leaving, he expressed his gratitude to everyone who helped him in his difficult situation. "Thank you for the tremendous support. Without you it would be very hard," he conveyed through the interpreter on the phone.

In turn, the Phuket Tourist Assistance Center thanked everyone who participated in providing support to the Russian. At the same time, it is not clear why the local authorities did not ask for help from the Russian diaspora on the island.
