Free trade talks resume between Thailand and the European Union
On January 25, 2023, Thai Trade Minister Yurin Laxanavisit and EU Trade Commissioner Valdis Dombrovskis met at le berlaymont in Brussels to discuss a free trade agreement.
The potential benefits of such an agreement are enormous for both parties: Thailand will gain access to one of the world's largest markets with a population of 500 million and greater access to essential goods from Europe; while Europe will gain access to Thailand's fast-growing economy with its large population and low wages in labor-intensive sectors.
The European Union has already signed free trade agreements with Singapore and Vietnam, and Indonesia is currently a partner in negotiations of a similar nature; these successes indicate the great potential of bilateral economic ties between Europe and Asia as a result of future free trade agreements.
This is good news not only for those directly involved in the process, but also for investors who are looking for opportunities in Asia - especially for those who are considering investing in Thailand specifically - as this country may soon become even more attractive than before. , largely thanks to the upcoming partnership with one of the largest markets in the world - the European Union!
