Pattaya transport: tuk-tuks, motosai and songteos

Songteo in Pattaya

Open top cars are one of the most popular modes of transport. In such machines, a covered body and two benches are installed. “Songteo” is translated from Thai as “two benches”. It is very good to drive this transport in the hot season, and if it rains in Pattaya, the driver will immediately cover the car with a protective awning.

The songteo can accommodate ten passengers, but if desired, all twelve. As a rule, 1-2 people travel with the driver. The Thais themselves are not tall, so sometimes even 25 passengers can be seen in one car!

Songteo routes in Pattaya city

Songteos of different colors travel around the city. Each of them has their own routes. For example, blue cars run only in the part of the city that is located west of Sukhumvit. The fare will vary. A ticket for a blue songthaew for a short distance will cost 20 baht, and for a white car - 30 baht. Also in the city you can find cars of other colors: blue, red and orange. These songthaews go to the suburbs, so they are hardly used by tourists.

Blue cars have their own numbers and certain routes. They can be seen on the central streets of the city - Jomtien, Beach Road, Thapraye, etc.

One of the popular routes will start from a street called Jomtien. Songteo moves towards the fish market. On the way back, the car's route changes slightly. The driver turns off at Naklua street and drives along the sea coast.

By the way, routes are sometimes unpredictable. It may happen that the driver is tired, or his wife asked to drive to the market. Then he will simply turn in the direction he needs, and you will have to go along with him. If you don't want to travel for the driver, then you will have to pay him like a taxi, and then he will go where you need. Yes, everyone wants to make money here. As they say, money is everything.

You can always ask a Thai to drive his car like a taxi to get to the place. The minimum cost of such a trip is 150 baht. For longer distances (about 4-5 km), 300-350 baht will be required from you.

Before you pay the fare, ask what route the songthaew takes and if you can get to the place. If the answer is yes, get into the car and admire the picturesque and unusual views of the city.

If your car turned the other way, immediately press the special button to exit. Pay the driver for the fare and get off at the bus stop. Don't worry, songthaews are quite frequent. You won't have to wait long for the next car. And do not be upset because of this situation! The next songteo will arrive in a few minutes and you will continue your journey!

Tuk-tuks

This mode of transport is sometimes confused with songteo. And yet, Thai tuk-tuks have their own distinctive features. First of all, such a machine has three wheels and a motorcycle engine. The driver sits under the roof, and he can also seat 2-4 people next to him. Of course, not very comfortable, but everyone can quickly get there.

There are much fewer tuk-tuks here than in the capital of Thailand. They all work like taxis. They don't have specific routes. The cost should be discussed before the trip. As a rule, the average price is 150-200 baht.

Taxi

There are big problems with this transport in the city. At the same time, there are a lot of cars, but the prices are very high. Local Thais rarely use the meter, so they can charge any price for their services.

A trip of 4-5 km can cost a tourist 300-350 baht. To get to the Khao Kaew Zoo and return - from 1700 baht. After such prices, in any city in Thailand, even in Bangkok, you will consider a taxi a budget mode of transport.

So it is best to think about the transfer in advance, otherwise there is a chance to lose quite a decent amount. If you urgently needed a taxi, you need to catch a car on the street. When the driver pulls up to you, try to bargain. If the prices do not suit you at all, catch another car. Do not forget that there are a lot of taxis here.

In addition, do not pay attention to Russian taxi advertisements. Yes, it is quite possible that the driver will speak a little Russian, but you will pay twice as much money for such a trip. The average price tag in "Russian" taxis is 400 baht.

Buses

Large buses travel around the city. There are really a lot of them. You can see school yellow buses or tourist buses for excursions.

This mode of transport is used to get to the capital or to other cities in Thailand. You can also drive to the airport. All buses depart from bus stations or parking lots.

Motosai

In Thailand, motorcycle taxis are very popular. This is one of the most popular modes of transport in Pattaya. On it you can get to any place, and very quickly.

On a motosai, the driver will be able to go around any traffic jams and other obstacles. Prices for such trips are quite reasonable. The fare for a short distance will be at least 25 baht.

Water transport

Koh Lan can be reached by ferry or speedboat. There is a Bali Hai Pier in Pattaya. Basically all routes start from this place. Boats and ferries also depart from Jomtien and Central Beach. The minimum cost of such a trip is 40 baht.

Transport to Utapao Airport

Utapao Airport is located 40 kilometers from the city. Several local and international flights pass through it daily. Sometimes planes from Russia fly here. From Utapao there are flights to Cambodia, Phuket, Kuala Lumpur, etc.

The most budget option to get to the airport is on foot (that's right - they go on foot). Indeed, some tourists and Thais prefer to walk so as not to spend a lot of money on a taxi. Others choose motosai. This method is suitable for those who do not have a lot of luggage. Tourists prefer to travel by songteo or local buses. The approximate cost of a trip to the airport is 60-80 baht.

The airport has special terminals. With the help of them you can buy a ticket for the transfer. It will cost you 300 baht. The road to Pattaya will take about an hour, but remember that the minibus will carry all tourists to different hotels. This will also take time. If you need to get to the airport on such a transfer, you will first have to get to the Central Festival shopping center.

If you arrived in Utapao on a low-cost airline, you need to book a transfer in advance. The minibus will also move towards Central Festival, but the driver will be able to stop anywhere. The approximate cost of such a trip is 250 baht.

The ideal option is a taxi. It will cost you 1000-1300 baht. It is very convenient, and most importantly - fast!
