Phuket: Paradise scenery and unforgettable vacation

Geographical position

Phuket Province is the largest island in Thailand, occupying the southern part of the country. It is washed by the Andaman Sea of the Indian Ocean. The area of the island is 540 km2, and the length is 50 km from north to south and 21 km from west to east.

Phuket is connected to Thailand by three bridges. From Bangkok it is separated by 863 km by road.

From Phuket, you can also drive to the neighboring city of Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia. The distance between the two cities is 980 km.

In addition, other wonderful Thai resorts are available to Phuket visitors: for example, Krabi and Phang Nga. You can also get to them by car in a few hours.

Ethnic composition

60% of the population are Thais, more than a third are Malays, and the smallest part are Chinese, Indians, Arabs and Russians.

Phuket architecture

The influence of Chinese settlers is very noticeable in the city - there are many two-story houses topped with tiled roofs and carved wood decorations. Houses with beautiful gardens are owned by wealthy Malays and Chinese, who made their money in rubber production and tin mining.

Religion

Mosques predominate in Phuket - there are many more of them than Buddhist and Chinese temples. In the city, you can often hear the muezzins singing, calling Muslims to prayer at certain times. Many women wear hijabs and niqabs. Muslim areas include Kamala and Surin. There is a Russian Orthodox Church on the island - more and more Russian citizens come to Phuket every year.

What attracts tourists to Phuket?

Phuket is called "Thailand's main beach". This is a real paradise on earth: snow-white sand, coconut palms, warm sea, gentle sun and stunning views of the mountains. The island boasts good infrastructure - there are many different banks, large shopping centers, shops and markets where you can buy useful products, souvenirs and other interesting things.

In Phuket, everyone can choose entertainment for themselves without getting out of their budget - there are many nightclubs, restaurants, bars, discos and other entertainment venues on the island. By the way, Phuket has very beautiful sunsets. Everyone will like this bright and unusual place - both young and noisy companies who like to walk at night and have fun until the morning, and parents with children who prefer peace and solitude.

Economy

The main income of Phuket residents is tourism and the production of latex products. A third of the island's area is occupied by hevea plantations, which are used in the production of rubber.

When is the best time to come?

The optimal vacation time in Phuket starts in November and ends in March. This period is characterized by dry sunny weather and a comfortable temperature for swimming.

For those who are tired of the cold climate of their country, this is the perfect time to visit. If we consider April-October, the temperature can be noticeably higher than 30 degrees. In late spring, summer and autumn in Phuket it rains constantly and there is high humidity. However, if you love surfing - you will find pluses in this season. There are many big waves on the sea that will perfectly fit into your sports hobby.

Where can you stay?

Guests of the paradise island are offered both expensive rooms in five-star rooms and modest places in hostels. The most popular resort in Phuket is Patong - most of the hotels are located here. True, they are located too close to each other. If you are going to rest at an economy rate, look for a place in Phuket Town - prices are lower there. You can rent a bungalow or a comfortable hotel room on the coast and in less popular resorts than Patong. As a rule, there is good food everywhere.

Why Phuket has become popular all over the world?

Phuket owes its popularity to American soldiers who fought in Southeast Asia in the late fifties and seventies of the last century. It was during the Second Indochina War.

The US Army soldiers devoted their free time to relaxing on local beaches and traveling around the country, during which they discovered many interesting and beautiful places.

Then foreigners from America and Europe rushed to Phuket - they quickly learned about the wonderful island and the beautiful local girls who were always glad to see tourists.

In 1967, the Sarasin Bridge was built, which connected Phuket with the mainland of Thailand. 1976 marked the opening of the first international airport on the island. The infrastructure of Phuket developed rapidly: the island was filled with new hotels, condominiums, villas, golf courses, restaurants and many other entertainment facilities. Rest there could afford almost anyone: the prices were quite flexible. In the mid-nineties, tourists from Russia began to actively come to Phuket: both "package tourists" and independent travelers wanted to see the island.

Is it worth it to come?

Definitely yes! Of course, holidays in Phuket will cost you much more than in other resorts in Thailand or Vietnam. But be sure - your investment will definitely pay off. There are excellent beaches, clear water and very beautiful nature. Despite the fact that prices are lower in Pattaya, the quality of rest there will be incomparably worse than in Phuket. The local airport has direct flights to Russia - you can fly to Phuket both by charter and regular flights. Be sure: to see all the interesting things that are in Phuket, one visit is definitely not enough. Therefore, it is quite possible that you will return to this hospitable and wonderful place again and again. Each subsequent visit will be remembered for something special.

Phuket cuisine and fruits (Baba Peranakan food)

Phuket pleases its residents and visitors with seasonal fruits. From April to September, the mangosteen season continues, and from May to October, rambutans. There are fruits that bear fruit all year round: you can taste fresh watermelon, pineapple, banana, mango, guava, coconuts and many other exotic fruits at any time. In different parts of the island there are markets where you can buy fresh fruit at affordable prices. Moreover, you can try the food offered by street vendors - it is very tasty and varied.

Phuket restaurants offer their guests to taste the most exotic and delicious dishes from Asia, Europe and, of course, Russia. The menu is presented in Thai, English and Russian. Many restaurants are located on the beaches and panoramic places, which will give you the opportunity not only to eat delicious food, but also to admire the picturesque views.
