Transport in Krabi

Public transport

Public transport in the province of Krabi is quite well developed. Buses and the so-called songthaews are the most popular. Modern buses with a high level of comfort, equipped with air conditioning, are mainly used for long distance travel (for example, between provinces).

Nimble songthaews - cars without glasses for 10 - 12 people. They run around the resort, linking cities and beaches. The interval of movement of such "minibuses" is very small, you won't have to wait long. The fare is low.

Songteo passengers ask the driver to stop by knocking on the roof. Therefore, this transport is sometimes called "tuk-tuk". This is not entirely true - the classic "tuk-tuk" (auto rickshaw), known since the 1960s, looks different and less spacious.

Taxis in the provinces are easily recognizable by their bright red color. But few are in a hurry to use the services - the cost of the trip hurts the wallet. For travel from Krabi town, even to the nearest beach, you will be charged at least 500 baht! Cars are not equipped with a meter, so the taxi driver often voices an inflated amount and is prepared in advance for the fact that passengers will bargain. A motorcycle taxi will cost less, but it also has less comfort - it's a regular motorcycle with a roof.

Public transport in Krabi is also present on the water. Communication between the province and nearby islands is carried out with the help of "boats with a long bird's tail". Such traditional boats are one of the symbols of Thailand, so we advise you to take a ride and get a special experience from the trip. Moreover, a one-way ticket costs only 100 baht.

Renting a bike will cost the same. Two-wheeled transport rental points are found literally at every step. Sometimes, as a deposit, they are asked to leave a tourist's foreign passport.

Bike rental

Two-wheeled motorized vehicles of all types are very popular in Krabi. There are bike and scooter rentals near every beach and hotel complex. You can rent a vehicle for free movement around the province for 250 baht. The cost of monthly use of the service is about 3000 BTH.

Employees of rental points can easily hand over any vehicle to you without being interested in documents. However, if a police patrol stops a driver without a license, a fine will be issued.

Tourists are usually offered a choice of a bike with a manual gearshift or a smooth-shifting CVT. Such bikes cannot be attributed to classic motorcycles - the volume of their engines is only 150 cubic centimeters. "Real" motorcycles are found in Thailand only with Malay plates.

The Russians will be surprised by the attitude towards people riding a bike along the highway. Larger vehicles give way to them. Local residents have long been accustomed to a huge number of small vehicles and treat it with understanding.

But you should not relax - there is always a chance to meet a scorcher in a car. Roads with excellent asphalt pavement beckon to exceed the speed limit. You should not succumb to such a temptation - in addition to an unpleasant meeting with a police patrol, who punish violators rather severely, there is a chance of injury. Do not forget about safety so as not to spend the rest of your vacation in a medical facility.

Car rent

If you went on vacation with children, elderly relatives or just a large group, consider renting a car. Having a car "at hand" will allow you to move around the province, regardless of the public transport schedule and see all the local beauties and attractions. By car, you can even get to a fairly steep mountain or deep into the rainforest. Russian tourists will be pleasantly surprised by the absence of traffic jams - you should not just be in the capital during peak hours.

An important rule for motorists is that in Krabi a red curb with white stripes indicates places where parking is prohibited.

The province is represented by both international companies - "National" and "Budget", and local ones (in the latter, the cost of rental will be lower). Car sharing points are located in convenient places: several in Krabi town, on Ao Nang beach (the most favorable conditions here are provided by Mr. Kord), one is located right at the airport. Immediately after the flight and baggage claim, you can go on a comfortable journey in a rented car.

An economy class car will cost 1200 baht per day of use. For increased comfort, you need to pay extra, but often this is a rather small amount. As a deposit, you will have to leave your passport and several thousand baht.

Our compatriots may be upset by the fact that in Thailand they do not recognize Russian-style driver's licenses - only international driving licenses.
