Another place to visit in Phuket is Sri Sunthorn Temple, which is famous for the huge figure of the golden Buddha reclining on the roof of the sanctuary. The temple was erected by the first Chakri king Rama I in honor of one of the sisters who saved the island from the Burmese conquest. At the corners of the entrance to the temple, there are snow-white carved statues of elephants, to which flowers and incense are laid.
On the territory of the temple there are ponds in which koi swim and fountains flow. There are picturesque sculptures of birds, animals and mythical characters around.
Peace and silence always reign here, which set you up for unhurried contemplation, leading to a meditative state.
