There are many dams and lakes in Thailand. The most popular of them is Cheow Lan, but locals also advise tourists to visit Mae Ngat. This lake is located in Si Lanna Park and it is very beautiful here. If you wish, you can rent a boat to enjoy the picturesque scenery.

Mae Ngat Sombun Chon is the full name of the lake, but the Thais decided to shorten it to Mae Ngat. If you look, it's not even a lake, but a reservoir. Its area is 16 km2. Lake Cheow Lan is about 10-11 times larger.

And yet this reservoir is very beautiful. During the rainy season, the water can rise all the way to the forest. The lake is best visited when the weather is cool. Then you will definitely be able to calmly enjoy the beauty of landscapes and silence. If you want to have fun, you can take a group of friends and rent a small raft. Renting such a "boat" will cost you about 700 baht.

It is better to go here for the whole day. A trip to the lake is a great option for fun with friends or family. You can have a picnic on the shore, but two hours will definitely not be enough for you, so it’s better not to spare time and relax properly.

On the coast there is a "water taxi". Tourists very often get confused and take this taxi for pleasure boats, but this is a taxi that can take you to the desired place, and not give you a tour.

By the way, by public transport you are unlikely to be able to get to the reservoir. It is much easier to do this on a rented motorbike or car. It's about an hour drive from Chiang Mai. The lake is located 55 km from the city. Therefore, it will take you two hours to get there and back.
