A little south of Chaweng is the island's second most popular beach - Lamai. Unlike Chaweng, the beach is less snow-white and rocky in places. This beach has long been chosen by surfers, because the sea here is deeper than other beaches of Koh Samui. This beach is known for its excellent SPA centers, where tourists come for wellness treatments, including the famous Thai massage, mud baths and saunas.
The northern part is located near the highway. On its territory there are hotels and commercial enterprises. There are very few tall trees on the beach, so there is no natural shade from the plants. The entrance to the sea is gentle, the bottom is rocky, there are muddy areas with algae, so if you decide to swim here, it is better to do it in special shoes. Fishing boats often moor on the shore. There are no entertainment or nightclubs here.
The central part of Lamai is always crowded. This is the second most popular beach on the island. Modern infrastructure, a huge variety of entertainment for every taste, well-groomed territory, golden sand and amazing sea - all this makes Lamai a favorite vacation spot for tourists. A large number of hotels, inns, as well as shopping centers have been built here, among which the Tesco shopping center is of great interest. There are no natural shady places on the beach, but it is possible to rent a sun lounger with an umbrella or buy your own.
The southern part of the beach stretches for 600 meters. Here the territory is less ennobled, on the golden sand there are areas with garbage not removed in time. The entrance to the water is quite steep, the seabed is not uniform, sometimes rocky and muddy areas come across. Algae are visible in some places. You need to be very careful when entering the sea, sea urchins are often found here. Therefore, the southern part of Lamai is not recommended for families with children. The beach administration provides rental of umbrellas, because there are no shady places on the beach.
There are strong waves in this part of the beach during the winter months. There are many hotels and restaurants on the coast, but there are no entertainment centers and nightclubs here. Shops and a large hypermarket have been built for shopping lovers. There is also an Orthodox church here.
